Shopping for new auto insurance? Four questions to ask potential agents
May 9, 2021Summer is here, and with it comes summer storms and the inevitable tree damage they can bring.
While some of this is not preventable, sometimes there are things that – as a homeowner – you can do to limit tree damage from storms. And one of the best things you can do is make sure you have healthy, well-maintained trees on your property.
The bottom line is, healthy trees can handle a summer storm a lot better than an unhealthy tree and that means less for you to worry about!
Storms can cause issues with your tree’s roots, branches and more. And if that tree is already damaged or weak, you could be dealing with an expensive fix – and a big headache. You might not only lose a tree, you could see extensive damage to your home, vehicle or landscaping.
So, what can you do about tree damage?
Luckily, there are trained arborists (think of them as tree doctors) who can inspect your trees. They’ll look at the roots, soil around the tree, branches, trunk and more, including whether your tree has pests or other diseases.
If they find anything, they can help heal the tree or if that isn’t possible, they can remove it before it does any damage.
Sometimes, it’s a simple fix: Remove a branch, stake or brace the tree or more.
Making sure to have your trees regularly inspected is also good for your homeowner’s insurance policy. If your home is damaged by a tree, having proof of a regular inspection can be helpful.
Most homeowner’s insurance policies cover damage for fallen trees, especially if you have proof of an inspection that the tree was healthy and it broke because of a summer storm or high winds.
